My Black Ale recipe
The name is still a work in progress, but for now that is all it is. This recipe came out from the malts experiment, and probably will be defined as a single hop black ale. The recipe will be in the simple version for the average amateur (so straight out of my note book). Usually recipes are in another, more professional version, but that involves details I yet to try and have (aimed temps etc.)
From my book:
Wort – 4L Brita + 3.3lbs Coopers Dark Ale Extract + 33g Fuggles Hops (6.4%) – cook for 45 minutes
Yeast – activate 11g Nottingham Gluten Free Ale Yeast in 0.5 cup of warm water (33°C) until used
After 45 minute – add another 33g of Fuggles Hops for another 15 minutes cooking
Stop cooking, move to an ice bath (in the sink!), add 6.5 Liters of cold Brita water. Bring down to 33°C
Filter into the fermenter, add yeast and measure gravity (I had 1055) – seal.
After 9 days (or when settled), check temp and gravity (I got 27°C and 1017) add another 33g of Fuggles Hops and 0.3 cup of dextrose – re-seal.
After 5 days – filter and measure (I had 23°C, 1013 FG). Filtered and ended up with 9.5 liters.
Added 0.3 dextrose to the beer and bottled – ended up with 19 bottles.
That is my Single Hop Black Ale, and I hope to try and make it again soon with similar results.
