Tomorrow we are off to a 2 weeks holiday in various countries – 10 days in Israel to see friends and family, and then a weekend in Spain for friends’ wedding, that pushed me to fridge my Black Ale sooner than I would like, so I took it as an excuse to try it.
The final results are not surprising, but very pleasant. You can check the brewing day, but I made a mistake in cooking the wort on too low of temperatures, not allowing a boil, which didn’t allow a good protein break, and low OG. Despite being a slight disappointment on that front, the
resulting beer is light and sweat, flowery, and nice to drink in any occasion. Might not be a long term keeper, but just to prove that unless you manage to spoil the beer, every experiment has a good result when making beer.
Since I won’t be brewing in the next few weeks, I want to try and visit a few breweries where possible, and already have a few on my sight for the coming countries. I promise to report back on my findings.
Despite not brewing for a while, I have a few brewing days’ ideas – first, buy another 10l fermentation container and do split batches. This will allow me to experiment more even if I have no where to store it (this Black Ale batch of 10l takes a 1/3 of our fridge). Also, as Thanksgiving is coming, I’m planning on trying to make a cranberries light ale, using dried cranberries. Those are my main plans, with the hope of making the autumn/winter a very active brewing period (and yes, drinking too).
