Bottling the Black Ale, which actually is not an Ale
Finally got the time to bottle the Black Ale I’ve made a couple of weeks ago, and the results are both good and disappointing.
Bottling was pretty straight forward, but quantities were higher than I used to at 10L vs the usual 8.5L-9L, and as expected from the low OG, the FG was 1013 (adjusted), so a total of 3% ABV. This low ABV means that this is not officially an ale, which is usually 4.2%-7.5%. The problem is that now I have a great beer (it does taste nice), with Mild features, strong hops and a very dark colour – does anyone have any idea what to call it?
I know exactly what I’ve done wrong with this batch – cooking the wort on too low of a temperature (in my attempt to control the process), and next time I will try and repeat the process but with the correct rolling boil of a wort to produce my TG of 1050 .
