A simple trick for quicker bottling
Not long ago I explained the full process of how I bottle beer. As we all know, bottling can be a pain and so far I’ve been using a very simple jug and funnel method, but no more! Thanks to a small £4 investment, I bought a simple plastic tap that I attached to an old fermenting bottle – and voila! a bottling container.
This small addition of tap was really simple as it comes with a gasket, so a all I needed to do is groove a hole big enough to screw the tap in and that was it – all sealed and clean.
Based on two rounds of bottling with my new tapped bucket, I think I’ve cut about 25% of the time it took me to bottle in the previous way. My goal now is to increase efficiency even more and get a bottle drying tree and a bottle rinser, hopefully those will make bottling even more of a breeze.
Another point to remember if you are making a nice little bottling bucket is to go for a bigger volume than what you are usually brewing, it leave room for raking, adding sugars for priming and just give you breathing room instead of “squeezing” beer into a smaller space.
